Show this Sunday - Galaxy Hut

I’m excited to return to my favorite venue, Arlington’s little gem of a bar - the Galaxy Hut - this Sunday to play with both of the evening’s bands.

Rotary Club will be on first (around 9pm), and is the solo project of my long-lost Boston band Betwixt’s guitarist, Tom Devaney.  We’ll be playing his new songs acoustic, cello and guitar.  It’s very Roxy Music/Pere Ubu-type stuff - actually, Pere Ubu bassist Tony Maimone recorded and played bass on the first Rotary Club album a few years ago.

The Strugglers will play second.  This is the critically-acclaimed (Pitchfork!! whee) americana-ish work of Randy Bickford, who recently re-located from North Carolina to DC.  His stuff is excellent.  I’ll join him, cellist phenom Emily Wright, and my violinist pal Kirsten Snyder, in a special strings-heavy set of songs from his new, unreleased album.

See you there, yeaux.

I got asked to sit in on cello for The Strugglers’s first area show since they relocated to DC from North Carolina.  Tonight is our first practice & I’m really excited!  I don’t usually get asked to play with alt-country types, so it’s actually a refreshing change of pace - and this guy’s stuff is pure gold.  Wonderful melodies and lush instrumentations - I can’t wait to see what his new DC ensemble does with it.

And Comet Ping Pong is awesome.  If you’re around on July 2, please join us.

EDIT: This show was CANCELLED, but The Strugglers are looking for another summer show, and hopefully I will sit in on that one as well.
